Way back in 1973, in the era of disco music and Watergate, Mike’s Country Store was born. It was Grandad Michael Prascak, Sr. who had the vision to open the store, and he stocked it with discount tools and cheap cigarettes…and this was when a pack of premium cigarettes was just $.50! Mike Sr. enlisted the help of his son, Michael Prascak Jr. in running the place– and it wasn’t long before bargain hunters far and wide made Mike’s Country Store the shopping mecca it is today!

The original store, only 700 square feet, was chocked full of “ya never know what you’re gonna find” merchandise. Like many small retailers of the day, the Prascak family actually lived in the back of the store for a time.

Eventually the small space just couldn’t hold Grandad Prascaks’ dream, so in 1987, the family purchased a warehouse about a mile from their original location – and converted it to the store in LaPorte shoppers know and love today. Conveniently located on SR 39 between LaPorte, Indiana and New Buffalo, Michigan, Mike’s Country Store continues to be run by the Prascak family, with grandson Erik Prascak at the helm, always a welcoming familiar face to loyal Mike’s customers.

In June 2005, an addition to the LaPorte location brought customers 15,000 square feet of “Wow! Check this out!” shopping. Click here to check out our store!

Erik Prascak continues as the third generation in his family’s tradition of friendly service, unbelievably low prices, and a mix of merchandise that is truly eclectic!
